Atlantic Shores Bids into New Jersey’s Fourth Offshore Wind Solicitation

New Jersey’s first offshore wind projects will power more than one million homes

Atlantic City, NJ (July 10, 2024) – Today, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind (Atlantic Shores) announced it has submitted a proposal into the Fourth Offshore Wind Solicitation (NJ4) featuring projects positioned to be first to deliver offshore wind energy to the State of New Jersey.

The unmatched maturity of Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 make these projects best positioned to deliver safe, reliable, renewable power in support of New Jersey’s goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2035 and 11,000 megawatts of offshore wind installed by 2040. Combined, these projects will generate more than 2,800 MW of electricity, enough to serve more than 1 million New Jersey homes. If selected, Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 will be the first movers for New Jersey’s offshore wind industry and enable all future offshore wind projects to be delivered later this decade.

The distinct advantages of an advanced permitting program, combined with an array of critical near-term supply chain investments and a mature interconnection plan, make Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 the most competitive and deliverable projects proposed in NJ4.

“New Jersey is ready for offshore wind renewable power, and so is Atlantic Shores,” said Joris Veldhoven, Chief Executive Officer, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind. “Our proposal serves to expand and enhance existing strategic partnerships while growing our portfolio of economic development initiatives across the Garden State. Working with our host community partners, we are keen to continue securing critical supply chain investments that will create great paying union jobs, support local workforce development, and contribute to economic prosperity across New Jersey.”

With more than five years of stakeholder engagement and more than 40 environmental studies completed, Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 offer an unrivaled measure of certainty for clean energy infrastructure delivery. The proposal submitted into NJ4 provides a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable path to anchoring New Jersey’s thriving offshore wind industry, enabling the near-term creation of thousands of in-demand jobs and acceleration of billions of dollars in supply chain investments being made in the Garden State.

Earlier this month, Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 received their Record of Decision from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), a major milestone under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) concluding the rigorous evaluation of their Construction and Operations Plan. Full federal and state permit approvals for both projects are expected by the end of this year.

In addition to an advanced permitting program across both projects, Atlantic Shores Project 1 recently selected and started work with nationally recognized, New Jersey-based infrastructure firms Riggs Distler to lead the Cardiff substation expansion program and Creamer-Jingoli to engineer and design the export cable route running from landfall in Atlantic City to the electric grid point of interconnection in Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County.

With rising energy demand in the region and grid operators forecasting electric load growth of nearly 40% over the next 15 years, Atlantic Shores Projects 1 and 2 will not only help the State achieve its renewable energy goals, but will serve to diversify the electricity supply, increase electricity reliability, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the equivalent of 1.4 million passenger vehicles every year of the combined life cycles of the projects.

Company named finalist in Talent Management Leadership category

October 11th 2023 (Baltimore, MD) – Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind (“Atlantic Shores”), a 50:50 partnership between Shell New Energies US LLC and EDF Renewables North America, today announced that the company has been named a finalist in the 2023 Ventus Award. The Ventus Awards are hosted by the Business Network for Offshore Wind, the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a robust offshore wind supply chain in the U.S.

Atlantic Shores has been named a finalist in the Talent Management Leadership category, which recognizes those who nurture and develop a new generation of leaders.

Atlantic Shores has three offshore wind energy lease areas totaling more than 400 square miles under active development. Atlantic Shores Project 1 is the largest awarded project in New Jersey and the third largest in the United States. When completed, Atlantic Shores Project 1 will generate more than 1,510MW of energy, which is enough to power 700,000 homes. It’s estimated to remove nearly 4 million tons of greenhouse gas annually, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 770,000 cars off the road every year.

“I continue to be amazed by the ambition and dedication of this team,” said Joris Veldhoven, CEO of Atlantic Shores. “We are powered by the passion of our unique and diverse talent, and we’ll continue to invest in our people and communities.”

Atlantic Shores contributes to the industry by attracting and retaining a diverse talent pool to work in offshore wind. The company prioritizes a work culture that values diversity, invests in and cultivates emerging leaders, and embraces innovative outreach strategies that raise awareness about offshore wind and the many career opportunities the industry brings.

The annual Ventus Awards are the industry’s highest level of professional recognition, celebrating the people, companies, organizations, and work moving the global offshore wind industry forward. Awards are presented in ten categories designed to highlight the contributions and innovations of global professionals advancing the offshore wind industry.

All finalists will be recognized, and winners will be announced on November 9th at the Ventus Gala, the offshore wind industry’s premier celebration.

Today, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, LLC (Atlantic Shores) released a statement on the Monmouth University Polling Institute’s recent poll that makes clear the harmful effect of misinformation on sustainable energy development.

Atlantic City, N.J.  Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind responded to the recent Monmouth University poll. “We must not lose sight of the fact that clean energy is urgently needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Wind energy is an integral part of the state’s plan, and it needs to be built. Its environmental, job, and economic benefits are real.

Being able to bring a new offshore wind industry to this state and the country is exciting – but it doesn’t come without challenges and the need to educate and engage in information sharing. We have a role to play in helping people understand offshore wind and ensuring that they have accurate information. We embrace this role and will continue to openly communicate with New Jerseyans who want to know more.

Offshore wind will bring new facilities, supply chain businesses, and jobs to the state. As a developer, we are here to support New Jersey in meeting its clean energy goals and driving economic growth within the state. Our project alone will bring power to more than 700,000 homes, generate $1.9 billion in economic activity and create 18,000 jobs.

The spreading of misinformation and lies is dangerous and doesn’t serve the people of this state who so urgently need the benefits that offshore wind will bring. It must stop.”
